S1F

In Korean race results, S1F marks the point 200 meters from the start. The abbreviation combines Start and Furlong, with one furlong treated as 200 meters in these results.

Two uses in the results

S1F appears in two different parts of the results table:

1. S1F passing position — the order of the horses when they reach that point. This is position data.
2. S1F cumulative passing time — the elapsed time from the start to the 200-meter point. This is time data.

Confusing “in front” with “fast” can lead to a faulty reading, so first check which column contains the abbreviation.

What the opening 200 meters show

This section captures a horse’s response from the gate and its attempt to secure an early position. A quick figure shows that speed was used early; it does not by itself mean the horse went on to run well.

Consider the race distance, the overall pace, and the same horse’s previous figures. An S1F that looks quick in isolation may be ordinary if the entire field started quickly, while a departure from the horse’s usual range may be more informative than the absolute number.

Common misconceptions

“A fast S1F means the horse is a front-runner.” Breaking quickly is not the same as controlling the lead throughout. Follow the passing positions through 1C and 2C to see how the trip developed.

“The section is too short to matter.” It is only part of the race, but it is the most direct result field for identifying whether a horse was placed at an early disadvantage after the start.
